Current Approaches to Addressing Key Challenges in Slums
This session featured several approaches to addressing some of the key challenges in slums and slum upgrading through project case studies.

Developing the Past for Future Benefit: Stimulating the Economy by Promoting Heritage and Sustainable Tourism
The session demonstrated how the dynamics involved in managing cultural heritage resources can serve as a means to development.

Sustainable Urban Development and Climate Change
This session introduced two new product lines designed to address the challenges of urbanization and climate change: The 'Climate Resilient Cities' Initiative and The 'Eco2 Cities: Ecological Cities as Economic Cities' Program.

Combining Advisory Services with Lending Operations: PPP Financing Framework in Vietnam
The session described the approach that has been adopted to address infrastructure finance in Vietnam and focused on the Bank's findings at each stage of the engagement and how they have influenced the design of the program.

Harmonious Cities: Findings from the World Cities Report 2008/9
This session presented the main findings from the UN-HABITAT World Cities Report 2008/9.

Housing Subsidies:  Who Gets What and Why It Matters
This session looked at the highly charged issue of the distribution of housing subsidies in many of the countries where we work and explored a framework for identifying and measuring the flow of financial and real-sector subsidies to various beneficiaries.

Subnational Finance: New Opportunities for Engagement with Local Governments and State-Owned Entities
The session introduced the subnational finance (SN) product line to urban staff and familiarized attendees with specific characteristics of working in joint World Bank/IFC teams.

Urban Planning Capacity: Certification of Individuals and Building Resilient Planning Institutions
The session presented findings of research carried out in WBI on the importance of certification in urban planning, and had a panel discussion with planners from Mexico, China, and Guatemala.

Reducing Urban Disaster Risks
This session gave an overview of methods and tools available for risk reduction strategies that can be applied in urban planning. Country case studies from different regions were shared with the participants.

BBL: Spatial Analysis of Natural Hazard and Climate Change Risks in Peri-Urban Areas of Dakar, Senegal
This BBL presented main findings from a newly developed spatial analysis methodology, as well as eye-catching natural hazards and climate change vulnerability maps and spatial profiles for the Dakar region.

BBL: The Role of the Bank in Supporting Decentralization in Peru: Lessons from Tourism Development in Cuzco
This BBL presented the Cuzco Regional Government's vision and plans for its increasing role in infrastructure in the context of Peru's decentralization process, and the role played by its emerging partnership with the Bank.

Ask the Experts - What Drives the Technology Choices by Cities and Private Companies? -- Local energy and materials pricing? Investment climates? Waste characteristics? Regulations?
This session provided information and a forum to address participant questions to the experts on solid waste technology choices for cities.

Arming Cities with Market Intelligence:  Applying the Inner-City Market DrillDown Tool in Johannesburg and Bogota
This session explored the application of data mining techniques pioneered by Social Compact using their proprietary Neighborhood Market Drilldown tools.

Approaches to Urban Land Development:  From Brownfield Redevelopment to Industrial Competitiveness
This session reviewed approaches to Brownfield Redevelopment and looked at legal process, agency roles, placemaking and urban design. MNA's growing Industrial Land Development Business Line was also reviewed.
